Uji travel guide: sights and a practical walking route
A southern Kyoto city linking Byodoin, Ujigami Shrine, tea shops, Tale of Genji interpretation, and a flower temple across the Uji River.
What Uji is like
JR Uji and Keihan Uji sit on opposite sides of the river, enabling a one-way route through Byodoin and Ujigami. Tea-shop queues should not jeopardize temple admissions.
Mimurotoji is outside the center and crowded in flower seasons. Byodoin's Phoenix Hall interior uses separate timed admission.
Stations and access
Use JR Nara Line and Keihan Uji Line for a one-way route. Central Uji is walkable; Mimurotoji needs its own rail or bus approach.
Major places to visit
Byodoin Temple
Visit Phoenix Hall and the museum. Interior hall entry uses separate limited timed tickets.
