Kyoto Station Area travel guide: sights and a practical walking route
Kyoto's transport hub combines station architecture, viewpoints, Hongwanji temples, and a railway museum for arrival or departure days.
What Kyoto Station Area is like
Kyoto Station is a major architectural site with a grand stair, skyway, and roof areas. Higashi Honganji lies north, while Nishi Hongwanji and the railway museum group northwest.
Instead of immediately crossing the city, store luggage and use a half day around the station. Temples close earlier than the station complex, so visit them first.
Stations and access
Use JR, Kintetsu, and subway Kyoto Station as the base. Umekoji is one JR Sagano Line stop or a longer walk.
