Himeji travel guide: sights and a practical walking route
A castle city combining Himeji Castle, Kokoen, Mt. Shosha, a history museum, and station streets—even on a Shinkansen stopover.
What Himeji is like
Himeji Castle is visible directly north of the station and about a 20-minute walk. Steep keep stairs make the castle a two-hour visit for many travelers.
Engyoji requires bus and ropeway travel. Combining it with the castle needs an early start. Kokoen sits west of the castle and offers combined tickets.
Stations and access
Walk or take a short bus north from Himeji Station. For Mt. Shosha, coordinate the station bus with the ropeway.
