What Ryogoku is like

Ryogoku is known for sumo but also presents Edo culture through Hokusai, swords, and gardens. Tournament and event days change crowd levels and access around Kokugikan, so build separate routes for ticketed and non-ticketed visits.

Museums can close for exhibition changes. Sumo stables are working and residential spaces; never enter or photograph interiors without permission or follow wrestlers in the street.

Stations and access

JR Ryogoku West Exit serves Kokugikan and Former Yasuda Garden. The Oedo Line station is closer to the Hokusai Museum; the two stations are not in the same building.
