Kumamoto travel guide: sights and a practical walking route
A castle city linking Kumamoto Castle, Josaien, the city museum, downtown arcades, and Suizenji Garden by streetcar and walking.
What Kumamoto is like
Take the streetcar from Kumamoto Station to downtown and the castle. Restoration work means visitors use designated routes, so check current public areas.
Suizenji lies east of downtown as a separate streetcar cluster. Aso is a full separate itinerary, not an extension of the city walk.
Stations and access
Use streetcars from Kumamoto Station to the castle, Hanabatacho, and Suizenji. Downtown arcades connect on foot.
