Kagoshima and Sakurajima travel guide: sights and a practical walking route
A southern Kyushu gateway linking Sengan-en, the Sakurajima ferry and volcano, Meiji Restoration history, and Tenmonkan by streetcar, bus, and boat.
What Kagoshima and Sakurajima is like
Kagoshima-Chuo, Kagoshima Station, and the ferry port are separate. Check ash, volcanic notices, and island buses and follow all safety instructions.
Sengan-en lies north of central Kagoshima by bus or JR. Combining it with Sakurajima requires reducing museums and shopping.
Stations and access
Take the streetcar from Kagoshima-Chuo toward Tenmonkan and the aquarium area, then walk to the ferry. Sengan-en uses a separate northern route.
