What Sapporo is like

Sapporo Station and Odori are linked by an underground walkway, making the center manageable in rain or snow. The Clock Tower and Nijo Market are walkable, while Mt. Moiwa requires streetcar and shuttle connections.

In winter, allow for icy pavements and early darkness and alternate outdoor stops with indoor attractions. Major event periods such as the Snow Festival require separate accommodation and transport planning.

Stations and access

Treat Sapporo Station, Odori, and Susukino as a north-south spine. A subway day pass may be useful when staying within the urban core.

  • First Hokkaido visit
  • Markets and local food
  • A winter-friendly city base
